Desert Herbs Chia Seed

Desert Herbs Chia Seed is whole premium chia seed in a 4 oz resealable pouch. Use chia seeds for birds as a light sprinkle over regular food or seeds for plant-based omega-3 ALA, fiber, and texture — not as a complete diet.

Quick product facts

  • Brand: Desert Herbs
  • Ingredient: whole chia seed (Salvia hispanica)
  • Form: whole seed
  • Net weight: 4 oz / 113 g
  • Use: sprinkle on food and seeds
  • Pack: resealable stand-up pouch

Before using

  • Confirm the ingredient statement on the pouch
  • No measured daily serving is printed on the front label
  • This seed is calorie-dense — a light sprinkle is enough
  • Introduce gradually so the bird can adjust to extra fiber and fat
  • Ask an avian veterinarian before a diet change if the bird has obesity, digestive disease, swallowing problems, medication, or another managed condition

What the listing highlights

  • Plant-based omega-3 ALA
  • Naturally high fiber
  • Fat, protein, and carbohydrates as concentrated dietary energy
  • Tiny whole seed that many small birds can manage without grinding

Listed for many seed-eating companion birds and parrots, including finches, canaries, budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds, parrotlets, conures, and larger parrots used as a small topper.

How to offer

  • Dry topper: sprinkle a small amount over normal food or seeds
  • Soft food: stir a small quantity into moist food immediately before serving and remove leftovers promptly
  • Soaked: optional, and only a small fresh portion if advised; discard uneaten gel promptly
  • Reseal the pouch after each use and provide clean water daily

Serving: The package shown says to sprinkle on food and seeds. It does not give a measured daily amount. Start small and keep this seed supplemental.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can companion birds eat whole chia seed?

Many seed-eating companion birds and parrots can eat whole chia seed in moderation as supplemental variety. It is not a complete diet.

What omega-3 does chia supply?

Chia naturally supplies alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid, along with fiber and other nutrients.

Do the seeds need to be ground?

No. The listing says these seeds are very small and may be offered whole. Sprinkle a modest amount over normal food.

How much should I give?

The package shown says to sprinkle on food and seeds but does not provide a measured daily serving. Begin with a light sprinkle so this seed does not displace complete food.

Should chia be soaked?

Soaking is optional and is not required by the front label. If served wet, prepare a small fresh portion and remove leftovers promptly.
