Quick product facts

  • Enrofloxacin 2.5% oral solution
  • Enrofloxacin 25 mg per mL (2.5%)
  • Oral solution for pet animals
  • Labeled dose for mice: 5 mg/kg = 0.2 mL/kg

Before you start

  • Confirm the diagnosis and dose with your vet
  • Weigh your mouse first
  • Check the label says 2.5%, not 10%
  • Measure with a 0.5 mL (100 unit) insulin-style syringe and give by mouth with no needle attached. Use a needle-free oral syringe of the same size, or ask your vet or pharmacy.

Enrofloxacin 2.5% Oral Solution for Mice – 25 mg/mL

A pet mouse weighs about as much as a few coins, so dosing takes care. If your vet recommends enrofloxacin, this enrofloxacin 2.5% oral solution (25 mg/mL) is the lower-strength option that makes a mouse-sized dose possible to measure.

This page gives the labeled dose for mice, a chart by body weight and diluted volumes for these very small doses. Use a gram scale, and confirm every number with your vet.

This enrofloxacin 2.5% oral solution is an alternative to Baytril®: it has the same active ingredient, enrofloxacin.

Enrofloxacin 2.5% Dosage Chart for Mice

Dose for mice: 5 mg per kg = 0.2 mL per kg, given twice daily for 7 days.

How to calculate: Enrofloxacin 2.5% (mL) = body weight (kg) × 0.2. The chart below is per dose.

Body weight Dose (mg) Enrofloxacin 2.5% (mL) Diluted 1:4 (mL of mix)
15 g (0.5 oz) 0.075 mg 0.003 mL 0.015 mL
20 g (0.7 oz) 0.1 mg 0.004 mL 0.02 mL
25 g (0.9 oz) 0.125 mg 0.005 mL 0.025 mL
30 g (1.1 oz) 0.15 mg 0.006 mL 0.03 mL
40 g (1.4 oz) 0.2 mg 0.008 mL 0.04 mL
50 g (1.8 oz) 0.25 mg 0.01 mL 0.05 mL

Doses under 0.05 mL of undiluted product are hard to measure, so use the diluted 1:4 column (five times the volume). On a 100-unit insulin syringe, 1 unit = 0.01 mL.

Typical weights vary, so weigh your mouse for the most accurate dose. This label-based chart does not replace your vet's directions.

How to Mix and Give Enrofloxacin 2.5%

Mix 1 part product with 4 parts water, as the label recommends.

  1. Weigh your mouse and work out the dose from the chart
  2. Mix 1 part Enrofloxacin 2.5% with 4 parts clean water in a clean container
  3. Measure with a 0.5 mL (100 unit) insulin-style syringe and give by mouth with no needle attached. Use a needle-free oral syringe of the same size, or ask your vet or pharmacy.
  4. Give the dose twice daily for 7 days, as directed by your vet
  5. Rinse the syringe after each use and keep the bottle tightly closed

Have your vet show you the right technique for your mouse.

Drinking-Water Mix for Mice (75 ppm)

Per the label, the drinking-water dose for mice is 75 ppm, which works out to 0.3 mL of Enrofloxacin 2.5% per 100 mL of water.

Drinking water Enrofloxacin 2.5% to add
100 mL (about 3.4 oz) 0.3 mL
250 mL (about 8.5 oz) 0.75 mL
500 mL (about 17 oz) 1.5 mL
1 liter (about 34 oz) 3 mL
  • Medicated water should be made up daily immediately prior to provision, preferably in a glass container
  • Label working range 50–200 ppm; above 250 ppm the medicine can precipitate.
  • Watch how much your mouse drinks. If drinking drops, the dose drops too, so tell your vet

The 1:4 mix used for dosing by syringe above is not a drinking-water mix.

Safety and Handling

  • Wear gloves when handling and mixing the medicine, and wash your hands afterward
  • Not for prophylaxis. Do not use it to try to prevent illness; use it only for treatment as directed by your vet
  • Do not combine with aluminum- or magnesium-containing products, macrolides, tetracyclines or phenicols
  • Overdose can cause neurological signs. If you see tremors, loss of coordination or seizures, call your vet right away
  • If you also give probiotics, give them 2–4 hours apart from enrofloxacin doses

Active Ingredient

Enrofloxacin 25 mg/mL (2.5%)

Enrofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used in veterinary medicine for infections caused by susceptible bacteria, when selected and directed by a veterinarian. Ask your vet whether it suits your mouse, especially if your animal is very young, pregnant or nursing, has a history of seizures, or is taking other medicine.

When to Call Your Vet Right Away

  • Stops eating or drinking
  • Noisy, clicking or labored breathing
  • Discharge from the eyes or nose
  • Diarrhea or a soiled rear end
  • Lethargy, hiding or a hunched, rough coat
  • Rapid weight loss

Call your vet right away if you see any of these signs, or if your mouse gets worse during treatment.

Supporting Your Mouse During Treatment

  • Weigh your mouse on a gram scale before dosing
  • Keep fresh food, clean water and a clean, dry cage available
  • Keep the cage warm, quiet and away from drafts
  • Watch eating, drinking and droppings every day

Storage

  • Store in the original container, tightly closed
  • Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
  • Keep out of reach of children and other animals
  • Follow the storage and expiry directions printed on the label

Frequently Asked Questions: Enrofloxacin 2.5% for Mice

How much Enrofloxacin 2.5% does a mouse get?
The labeled dose for small mammals is 5 mg per kg, which is 0.2 mL of the 2.5% solution per kg, twice daily for 7 days. A 25 g mouse needs only 0.005 mL of product per dose, so the chart shows diluted volumes. Follow your vet's directions.
Can Enrofloxacin 2.5% go in a mouse's drinking water?
The label gives 75 ppm for mice, which is 0.3 mL of Enrofloxacin 2.5% per 100 mL of water. Medicated water should be made up daily immediately prior to provision, preferably in a glass container. Watch how much your mouse drinks, and tell your vet if drinking drops.
Do I need a vet before giving Enrofloxacin 2.5% to my mouse?
Yes. Antibiotics should be used only with a veterinarian's guidance, so your vet can confirm the diagnosis, the dose and the length of treatment for your mouse.
Can I use this chart with 10% enrofloxacin products?
No. This chart is for the 2.5% solution (25 mg/mL) only. The 10% solution (100 mg/mL) is four times stronger, so the same mL would be a serious overdose.
Is Enrofloxacin 2.5% returnable?
No. Final sale: medications are non-returnable.
